The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sanctioned a proposal worth ₹8.21 crore for the acquisition of 15 Bin Refuse Collector (BRC) vehicles to bolster the city's solid waste management efforts. PMC Standing Committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale emphasized the necessity for enhanced infrastructure due to the city's expansion and the increasing volume of waste generated daily. Each vehicle is set to cost approximately ₹54.78 lakh including an 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST). Initially, the project was estimated at ₹7.07 crore. The tender process commenced in December 2025 and was later reissued, with Pagaria Auto Pvt Ltd emerging as the lowest bidder at about 1.5% below the estimated cost. The purchase will be financed through the 2026-27 budget allocated for waste transport vehicles in newly incorporated villages. While some funds are already available, the remaining ₹84 lakh will be secured through budget reallocation. Bhimale noted that the addition of new areas has intensified the demand on the existing fleet, and these vehicles will facilitate timely waste collection and improved sanitation.
