In a bid to enhance urban greenery, Prayagraj district in Uttar Pradesh will launch a tree plantation campaign in the first week of July, aiming to plant 7,137,747 saplings. This ambitious drive is part of the Uttar Pradesh government's larger initiative to plant 35 crore saplings statewide in a single day. Arvind Kumar, the divisional forest officer, noted that over 24 government departments are involved in this effort, with specific targets assigned to each. The forest department is tasked with planting 2.4 million saplings, while the rural development department will contribute 2,654,837 saplings. Other departments, including agriculture and horticulture, will also play significant roles. The campaign, titled ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, encourages public participation, with directives for students to plant at least one sapling each. Additionally, large-scale plantations will be prioritized along the Ganga Expressway to create green corridors. To ensure the success of this initiative, officials will utilize modern technology for continuous monitoring to improve sapling survival rates.
