On Friday, Mumbai, India, recorded a peak power demand of 4,329 megawatts (MW), surpassing the previous record of 4,307 MW set in May 2024. The demand was primarily driven by the western and eastern suburbs, which accounted for 2,090 MW, while the island city contributed 947 MW. Tata Power supplied 595 MW from its Trombay plants, and Adani Electricity provided 292 MW from its Dahanu plant, with the remaining 3,442 MW sourced from outside the city via transmission lines. Despite no outages reported on that day, previous days saw multiple outages lasting between 3 to 8 hours in areas like Mahim, Dadar, and Matunga, attributed to the aging underground cable network. Officials indicated that as temperatures rise further, demand could exceed 4,500 MW, intensifying pressure on the power infrastructure.
