Tata Power, an Indian energy company, and Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd (DGPC) have signed an amendment to their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop an additional 404 MW hydropower project in Bhutan. This new project, named the Nyera Amari I & II Integrated Hydropower Project, increases the total identified hydropower capacity under their collaboration to 5,033 MW. The original MoU, signed on November 19, 2024, aimed to develop at least 4,500 MW of hydropower projects in Bhutan. The partnership is aligned with Bhutan's vision to achieve an overall energy generation capacity of 25,000 MW by 2040. Praveer Sinha, CEO of Tata Power, emphasized that this project reflects their long-term commitment to advancing Bhutan's economic growth and enhancing regional energy security. Dasho Chhewang Rinzin, MD of DGPC, noted that this collaboration is crucial for unlocking Bhutan's hydropower potential and reinforcing its status as a leading clean energy nation.
