The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has launched a ₹609-crore (approximately $73 million USD) tender process to enhance its waste management infrastructure by deploying 831 vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection. This initiative, which includes 653 light commercial vehicles and 178 e-rickshaws, aims to cover over 446,000 properties and manage more than 1,200 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste daily. The tender was published on April 22, with a pre-bid meeting scheduled for April 29 and a final bid submission deadline set for May 13. Mayor Rajrani Malhotra highlighted the project as a significant step toward improving the city's sanitation system, ensuring regular garbage collection and addressing issues related to irregular dumping. The move comes after a period of distress in Gurugram's waste management, following the termination of the previous contractor's contract in June 2024 due to inefficiency. This situation led many Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) to hire private laborers for waste collection at their own expense.
