Gurugram, India, has identified numerous illegal sewage discharge points contaminating its stormwater drainage network. Officials reported high levels of effluent discharge at various locations, including near Rezangla Chowk and Cyber Hub. As part of the Yamuna Clean Action roadmap, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will disconnect 39 illegal disposal points in legs II and III by June, and four points in leg I by December. This initiative aims to prevent approximately 100 million litres per day of untreated effluent from entering the drains. Currently, 21 out of 56 discharge points have been diverted. The majority of illegal connections were found in the leg-III drain, which spans about 26 kilometers. Additionally, proposals for three new sewerage treatment plants (STPs) with a total capacity of 240 million litres per day (MLD) are in progress, with work on existing plants in Behrampur nearing completion. The mapping of these polluting zones aims to enhance enforcement against industrial units discharging untreated wastewater into the drainage system.
