The Ghaziabad fire department has launched fire-safety awareness drives and inspections at all residential high-rises in the district following a significant fire at Gaur Green Avenue that damaged eight flats and affected around 60 residents. Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal announced that over the next 7-10 days, teams from each fire station will educate residents and maintenance staff on using essential fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers and alarm systems. Ghaziabad has about 650 high-rises, of which 450 are residential. The fire department is conducting daily awareness sessions and inspecting for encroachments that hinder firefighting efforts. Fire incidents in the district have surged, with 580 cases recorded from January to April this year alone. Residents are urging the fire department to ensure that fire safety equipment is functional and to conduct regular inspections to enforce compliance with safety norms.
