In response to a recent fire at Gaur Green Avenue in Indirapuram, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has sanctioned ₹100 crore for the fire department to purchase two hydraulic platforms capable of reaching heights of 101 meters. This decision was made by the GDA board on Thursday, with the aim of enhancing emergency response capabilities in a city that has approximately 450 high-rises. The current fire department can only access a single hydraulic platform that reaches 15 storeys, which was utilized during the recent fire incident. Fire department officials have repeatedly requested funding for better equipment, emphasizing the need for improved evacuation procedures as many new high-rises are being constructed. Additionally, there are ongoing challenges regarding land procurement for new fire stations in areas like Crossings Republik and Raj Nagar Extension, where traffic congestion often delays response times. The GDA has indicated that developers will assist in providing land for these new stations, which are crucial for addressing the fire safety needs of the expanding urban population.
