Salim Ismail Dola, an international drug trafficker, has been remanded to the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai until May 8. Dola was brought back to India from Turkey after Indian authorities sought his extradition. He is implicated in a June 2023 case involving the seizure of 20 kg of mephedrone (MD), a synthetic stimulant. The NCB revealed that Dola supplied approximately 40 kg of MD monthly to Faisal Shaikh, who distributed the drug to local peddlers. Shaikh reportedly paid ₹7 lakh per kg to Dola and resold it for ₹8 lakh per kg, generating profits of ₹40-50 lakh each month. A financial probe has identified Shaikh's drug-related assets exceeding ₹6.4 crore, which have been frozen. Dola, who has a history of drug-related offenses, had been evading arrest for several years before being apprehended in Istanbul. A non-bailable warrant and a Red Corner Notice were issued against him prior to his capture. He was taken into custody by the NCB upon his arrival in New Delhi and subsequently remanded in Mumbai.
