A woman from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has filed a police complaint against her husband, Nishant Kumar, and his family, alleging severe dowry harassment and mental torture. She claims that after their marriage on June 22, 2023, she discovered her husband had both kidneys failing due to addiction and was undergoing dialysis, information that was not disclosed before the wedding. The woman's family had gifted ₹8 lakh (approximately $9,600 USD) in cash, jewelry, and a Mahindra Thar SUV during the marriage. Following the wedding, she faced strange circumstances at her husband's home in Lucknow, including her husband's lack of interest in intimacy and inappropriate behavior from her in-laws. After discovering her husband's medical records, she was pressured to either arrange ₹30 lakh (approximately $36,000 USD) or donate a kidney. The woman left her in-laws' home on October 11, 2024, and has since been living in Kanpur. Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations, with senior officer Abhishek Pandey confirming that a case has been registered against the husband and in-laws.
