A woman in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has filed a complaint against her husband, Nishant Kumar, and his in-laws for dowry harassment, fraud, and cruelty. The woman alleges that after marrying on June 22, 2023, she was pressured to either donate a kidney or arrange ₹30 lakh (approximately $36,000 USD). Initially, the marriage seemed normal, supported by a substantial dowry that included ₹8 lakh (roughly $9,600 USD) in cash and a Mahindra Thar SUV. However, the situation deteriorated when she moved in with her husband, who reportedly showed no interest in their relationship. Disturbingly, her mother-in-law allegedly slept between them, while her father-in-law took photographs of her without consent. The woman discovered her husband's severe kidney issues, which he had been concealing, and was told by her in-laws to either pay for a kidney transplant or provide a kidney. After enduring this trauma, she left her husband's home on October 11, 2024, and returned to Kanpur. The police have initiated an investigation into the allegations.
