Residents of Haji Noorani Chawl in Mumbai have been granted a brief reprieve as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has delayed their eviction by one week. Initially ordered to vacate by Friday, the residents are requesting a month’s extension due to unresolved issues with their new homes in the Prabhadevi area. Concerns include leakages, a non-operational elevator, and lack of water connection. Munaf Thakur, a resident, emphasized the need for repairs before moving in. Out of eight families, two have not yet paid for their new accommodations, which are larger than initially promised, leading to additional costs of up to ₹25 lakh (approximately $30,000 USD). The demolition of Laxmi Sadan, another building necessary for the Sewri-Worli Elevated Corridor project, commenced on March 27 and is expected to be completed soon. This project aims to enhance east-west connectivity in Mumbai, linking the Bandra-Worli Sea Link with Atal Setu at a cost of ₹1,051.86 crore (approximately $126 million USD).
