K Selvaperunthagai, the president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, has alleged that the Income Tax (I-T) department conducted a search at his residence, which he claims prevented him from attending a rally hosted by Rahul Gandhi on April 20, 2026. He provided videos and photographs purportedly showing I-T officials at his home, where he claims they disabled CCTV cameras. Selvaperunthagai stated that the officials threatened individuals present and inquired about money during the search, which he believes was politically motivated to intimidate him during the election period. In response to his allegations, the I-T department issued a statement denying any such searches took place. He questioned the I-T department's denial, suggesting that it was an attempt to obscure the truth and called for a detailed report on the incident.
