Delhi experienced its hottest day of the season on Thursday, with temperatures soaring to 41.7°C at the Safdarjung weather station, four degrees above normal. The previous high of 41°C was recorded on April 17. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) did not declare a heatwave, as only one weather station met the criteria. However, the Ridge station recorded a maximum of 43°C, which is 4.6°C above normal. A yellow alert has been issued for Friday and Saturday, indicating further temperature increases, with maximums expected between 42-44°C in various locations. Night-time temperatures were also elevated at 25.4°C, three degrees above normal. Relief may come after Sunday, as a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan could bring moisture and potential rain to Delhi and surrounding areas. The air quality index (AQI) improved to 176, but forecasts suggest it may drop back to 'poor' levels by Saturday.
