On April 21, 2023, Punjab Police announced the arrest of five individuals involved in two inter-linked cross-border narcotics smuggling cartels. The operation led to the recovery of over 7 kg of heroin. The arrested individuals include Deepak Singh alias Deepu (22), Prince Singh alias Prince, and three others from Sensra Kalan village in Amritsar district, Punjab, India. Police Director General Gaurav Yadav stated that the accused were in contact with a smuggler based in Pakistan, who was reportedly sending drug consignments via drones. The police seized a motorcycle allegedly used for trafficking drugs and are continuing their investigation to trace the broader smuggling network. Initial arrests included Deepak Singh, who was found with 1.3 kg of heroin, and further interrogations led to the recovery of additional quantities from other suspects, totaling about 4 kg from the first group and 2 kg from Prince Singh.
