On Tuesday, a court in Shillong, Meghalaya, granted bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime suspect in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, nearly 10 months after her arrest. The case, widely referred to as the Honeymoon murder, has drawn significant media attention. The court's decision was based on procedural lapses during Sonam's arrest by the Meghalaya Police, including failure to inform her of the specific grounds for her arrest in June 2025. The court also noted deficiencies in the arrest documentation, which weakened the prosecution's case at this stage. Despite the bail, the charges against Sonam remain in force, and she is required to cooperate with ongoing trial proceedings. The prosecution, led by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, expressed confidence in the evidence presented and will continue to pursue the case. The murder occurred during what was supposed to be Raja's honeymoon, with allegations that Sonam conspired with her alleged lover and hired contract killers to carry out the crime. A comprehensive charge sheet has been filed, and the trial is currently underway with multiple witnesses set to testify.
