KT Rama Rao (KTR), the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has urged for an immediate investigation into the alleged disappearance of nearly 40 lakh metric tonnes of coal, valued at approximately ₹1,600 crore, from the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). In a letter to Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy, KTR questioned how such a significant amount of coal could vanish without accountability. He alleged that the coal was illegally diverted and sold, resulting in substantial losses for the public sector undertaking. KTR criticized both the State and Central Governments for their inaction regarding ongoing scandals linked to Singareni, including the Naini coal mine tender controversy. He called for a comprehensive inspection of the stockyards and mines, emphasizing the need for transparency. Furthermore, KTR warned that if the Centre fails to initiate an investigation, BRS, along with Singareni workers, would organize large-scale protests against both governments. He reiterated the necessity for accountability and corrective measures concerning the alleged coal scam.
