During a press conference in Hyderabad, Telangana's Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy criticized the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government for its handling of irrigation projects, claiming it wasted public funds without delivering benefits to farmers. Reddy, alongside Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, highlighted that the Congress government aims to expedite ongoing and proposed irrigation projects. He specifically condemned the BRS's decision to change the water source for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme from Jurala to Srisailam, stating it severely harmed Mahabubnagar district's agricultural interests. Reddy noted that numerous irrigation schemes, such as Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu, and Bhima, remain unfinished despite a decade of BRS governance. He also mentioned that nearly ₹8,000 crore had been spent on the Sitarama project in Khammam district without achieving the anticipated irrigation benefits, and pointed out structural failures in the Kaleshwaram project during the BRS's administration. Reddy's remarks come at a time when the Congress government is focused on addressing these longstanding issues and improving irrigation infrastructure in Telangana.
