The Allahabad High Court has expressed serious concerns regarding the deteriorating conditions at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRN) in Prayagraj, which is affiliated with Moti Lal Nehru Medical College. Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal stated that the decline is not due to insufficient funding or amenities, but rather the private practices of doctors who are allegedly running parallel medical operations in the city. The court has mandated that the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary take appropriate action against those responsible and establish a high-level inquiry into the private practices of hospital staff. The next court hearing is scheduled for May 26, by which time the chief secretary is expected to report on the actions taken. Additionally, the court criticized the UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam for delays in completing construction projects at the hospital, some of which have been ongoing since 2006. The state counsel informed the court that necessary no-objection certificates for land transfer to the medical college have been obtained, and the proposal will soon be presented to the council of ministers for approval.
