The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is set to enhance the management of street lighting by introducing a mobile app-based system. In the first phase, approximately 25,000 street lights across various neighborhoods, including older residential areas and villages, will be integrated into this system. Currently, many street lights remain non-functional for extended periods due to delays in identifying faults. The new app-controlled system will feature control panels that allow municipal authorities to remotely manage street lights and monitor their status in real time. An alert mechanism will ensure that officials receive notifications if any street light malfunctions, facilitating quicker repairs. MCG's chief engineer, Vijay Dhaka, emphasized the need for modernized operations, stating that the detailed plan for the app-based system is already in place. Gurugram currently has around 125,000 street lights, and the MCG aims to gradually integrate most of them into a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for centralized monitoring and management.
