The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) announced the cancellation of a planned citywide water shutdown, originally scheduled for repair and maintenance, after a strike by private tanker operators was resolved. The strike arose from civic actions following two tragic deaths in the Mohammadwafi area caused by a rashly driven tanker. Mayor Manjusha Nagpure intervened, assuring tanker operators that their concerns would be addressed, leading to the strike's withdrawal. The PMC routinely conducts maintenance on Thursdays, affecting various areas, including Pune Cantonment and Warje. Amid low water levels, the Maharashtra Water Resources Department has advised PMC to consider implementing alternate-day water cuts to conserve resources. Currently, the water stock in Pune's four supplying dams stands at 13.20 TMC, approximately 45.29% of total capacity, compared to 12.04 TMC last year. The PMC aims to assess technical impacts of potential cuts, which could save 25% of water supply.
