Residents from housing societies in Undri and Mohammadwadi, Pune, staged protests on Wednesday after experiencing over 24 hours without water due to a strike by private tanker operators. Holding empty buckets and water cans, many residents, including senior citizens, voiced their frustrations over the persistent lack of a reliable municipal water supply. Vandana, a resident of Nyati Estate, emphasized that despite promises made since 2004, the situation has not improved. Dr. Rishi, another protestor, expressed concern for the over 500 homes affected, stating that families are struggling to manage basic needs. Nonagenarian OP Bhatnagar highlighted the financial burden, noting that residents spend nearly ₹12 lakh (roughly $14,500 USD) annually on tanker water. Civic officials, including Hemant More, superintendent engineer at Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), stated that efforts are underway to enhance supply infrastructure, with stabilization of water supply expected between May 15 and 20, 2024.
