A heated exchange took place between two women leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding a girls' hostel project in Baner, Maharashtra. Rohini Chimte, a sitting corporator, and Rajashree Kale, a former corporator, clashed over the construction of a four-storey building intended to serve as a residential education center for 120 girl students from backward and tribal communities. The project, which has incurred costs of ₹6.58 crore (approximately $790,000 USD) so far, is set to receive an additional ₹3 crore (approximately $360,000 USD) for electrical and furniture work this financial year. Chimte visited the PMC to inquire about delays in construction, while Kale accused her of obstructing the project and demanding money from the contractor. Civic activists criticized the incident, emphasizing the need for women leaders to maintain decorum, especially as discussions on political reservation for women are scheduled in Parliament. They called for an inquiry into any corruption linked to the project, highlighting the importance of integrity in governance.
