The Public Works Department (PWD) in New Delhi is set to commence beautification efforts on the Ring Road between Shanti Van and Rajghat, with an estimated budget of ₹96 lakh (approximately $115,000 USD). This initiative aims to enhance the visual appeal and infrastructure of the area, which is significant due to its proximity to Rajghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, frequented by tourists and dignitaries. The beautification will include decorative street lighting made of mild steel, improved footpaths, and horticultural enhancements. The project is expected to be completed within two months after the tender is awarded. Additionally, the PWD is implementing a trial project to create a signal-free corridor along the same stretch to combat traffic congestion. This involves a U-turn-based traffic management design that aims to reduce reliance on traffic signals and improve vehicle flow, particularly at the busy intersections of Rajghat and Shanti Van. If successful, this model may be replicated at other congested points on the Ring Road to further streamline traffic in the capital.
