Mehak Singh, a 29-year-old resident of Ghangas village near Khanna in Punjab, India, died unexpectedly in Indiana, USA, on April 22. He had been living abroad for nearly two years, initially moving to Canada before relocating to the United States for better job opportunities. His family was informed of his death by local authorities, which came as a shock since he had recently communicated with them without mentioning any health issues. His father, Uday Singh, last spoke to him on April 15, while his aunt, Sukhwinder Kaur, had a conversation with him on April 21, just a day before his passing. The family is now appealing to both the Punjab and Central governments for assistance in bringing his body back to India for cremation, citing financial difficulties in managing the necessary formalities. Local political leaders, including Shiromani Akali Dal constituency in-charge Manjit Singh Madnipur and Payal MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura, have visited the family to offer their support during this difficult time.
