Delhi Police has heightened security measures in response to credible threats of a terror attack aimed at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Lutyens’ Delhi. This alert comes after the arrest of nine members of a network associated with Shahzad Bhatti, a gangster linked to Pakistan, who was reportedly involved in recruiting individuals for attacks through social media. Police officials stated that these individuals were tasked with carrying out random shootings against security personnel in northern India and the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). As a precaution, security has been increased not only at the BJP headquarters but also at other significant government offices in New Delhi. The police are on high alert due to previous incidents, including a car bombing near the Red Fort last year, and are particularly monitoring for potential suicide attacks and the use of explosives. A BJP functionary noted that the heightened security is also a response to the recent swearing-in ceremony of the West Bengal government, indicating a nationwide increase in security protocols for BJP offices.
