On Thursday night, enforcement teams from the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) conducted joint operations in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, India, resulting in the arrest of 21 individuals for electricity theft. The raids targeted areas served by the 33/11 kV substations at Bankapur and Bishnoli, uncovering a total of 53.54 kW of unauthorized electricity usage. In the first operation at Kanpur village, 12 premises were found involved in theft, with individuals identified including Rahul, Satpal, and Ganga Sharan, among others. The second operation in areas like Shri Ji Villa and Vayu Enclave revealed nine more cases of theft, involving individuals such as Seema and Shivam Soni. Legal proceedings will commence under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003, and cases will be registered at the Anti Power Theft police station in Sector 63, Noida. Officials emphasized that strict action will be taken and that enforcement drives will persist in high-loss areas to curb revenue leakage.
