The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) plans to utilize drone surveys to identify illegal pathways and sewage discharge points along the 26km Badshahpur drain in Gurugram, Haryana, India. This initiative, prompted by complaints regarding unsafe access routes linking upstream areas to local settlements, aims to curb pollution and improve the city's stormwater management system. The GMDA will focus on sealing unauthorized pathways that allow illegal sewage connections from nearby residential colonies, which discharge waste directly into the drainage network. In addition, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will take action against sewage discharge from commercial establishments in Sectors 66, 67, and 69. The GMDA has also announced plans to remove encroachments along a 6km stretch of the drain and install safety grilles. Recent water quality tests indicated a biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) level of 90 mg/l, highlighting the pollution issue. The authorities are also preparing to implement diversions to manage overflow and are working on sealing illegal connections to improve overall wastewater management.
