In a chilling incident reminiscent of the earlier 'blue drum' murder case, Maharashtra Police have arrested Mehjabeen Sheikh and her brother, Tariq Sheikh, for the alleged murder of Mehjabeen's lover, Arbaz Maqsood Ali Khan, in the Mumbra area of Thane district. Khan, who went missing on April 3 after informing his family he was traveling for work, was reported missing by his father when he failed to return. Investigators traced Khan's last known location to Vasai, where they also located Mehjabeen's phone. Upon questioning, Mehjabeen initially withheld information but later confessed to the murder, claiming she was aided by her husband, Hasan, and her brother. The police reported that the motive was an attempt to extort money from Khan. After failing to secure any funds, the accused allegedly tied Khan's hands, assaulted him with a plastic pipe, and killed him. His body was subsequently stuffed into a green drum and disposed of in a nearby drain. While Mehjabeen and Tariq have been arrested, Hasan and another accomplice remain at large. The case has sparked renewed discussions about violent crimes in the region.
