The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Sanjay Meena, a superintendent at the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) office in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and Yash Sharma, a computer operator, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of โน6,000. The arrests stemmed from a complaint by Rohit Pal, the proprietor of RP Wedding Studio, who claimed that Meena and Sharma sought illegal payment to process a GST revocation matter. Pal reported that Meena issued a show-cause notice on March 30, 2026, regarding his application for revocation submitted on March 14. After uploading the necessary documents, Pal alleged that Sharma demanded the bribe to expedite the case. Following a discreet verification of the allegations, the CBI registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. A trap was laid, resulting in Sharma being caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. Both individuals have been arrested, and the CBI is continuing its investigation into the matter and the involvement of other officials.
