The Maharashtra government has officially approved the construction of a 134-km four-lane highway connecting Neral in Raigad district to Shirur in Pune district. This initiative aims to provide an alternative route to the heavily congested Mumbai–Pune Expressway, which has faced severe traffic issues, especially during weekends and holidays. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar announced the decision, highlighting that the new highway will enhance connectivity not only between Mumbai and Pune but also to the Marathwada and Ahilyanagar regions. The route will pass through Vandre, Pait, and Shiroli before reaching Shirur, facilitating easier access for motorists traveling to various parts of Pune district. The project is expected to significantly boost economic, industrial, and transportation development in the region. Pawar described the highway as a 'game changer' for Maharashtra, particularly benefiting industrial belts such as Khed SEZ, Talegaon, and Chakan. The initiative is anticipated to create new opportunities for industry, employment, and investment, fulfilling the vision of the late deputy chief minister Ajitdada.
