In Nashik, Maharashtra, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed chargesheets against Ashok Kharat, a self-styled godman, in connection with two sexual abuse cases. The complaints, registered on March 17 and March 21, allege that Kharat sexually assaulted two women who sought his help for a better future. The first victim reported being raped multiple times between 2022 and 2025. Following his arrest on March 18, the SIT, led by IPS officer Tejaswi Satpute, began its investigation, which has involved examining 105 witnesses and gathering over 2,000 pages of evidence. The SIT's findings suggest that Kharat exploited the faith of his victims, extorting money by selling items at inflated prices and threatening them with harm. Kharat is also implicated in 11 cases overall, including allegations of financial fraud and false extortion claims against the complainants. A supplementary chargesheet may be filed if additional evidence surfaces.
