State-run oil marketing companies in India, including Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, are intensifying efforts to verify the eligibility of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) subsidy recipients. Consumers whose annual taxable income exceeds ₹10 lakh (approximately $12,000 USD) may face the cancellation of their subsidy benefits. To maintain eligibility, consumers must link their Aadhaar number and bank account with their LPG connection. Currently, eligible consumers receive a subsidy of ₹24.50 per cylinder delivered to their homes. The verification process now includes matching customer data with records from the Income Tax Department to identify those incorrectly receiving subsidies. Additionally, a Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system has been introduced to prevent unauthorized LPG cylinder diversions. Consumers are urged to verify delivery messages and remain cautious against scams involving fake delivery notifications and OTP requests. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reassured citizens that LPG stocks are adequate amid global supply chain disruptions, emphasizing the importance of energy conservation.
