The Navi Mumbai police have urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to install view cutters along a 500-metre stretch of National Highway-548 to limit visibility of flight operations at the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). This request comes in response to several accidents caused by traffic disruptions from planespotters and curious onlookers. Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe stated that the proposal aims to prevent gatherings that lead to traffic snarls and accidents. Despite sending multiple letters to the NHAI since December 29, 2025, the police have yet to receive a response. Recent fatal accidents, including the deaths of Mohammad Asif Adhikari, Vinay Dashrath Sonawane, and Sachin Raju Avatade, have highlighted the urgency of the situation. While the NHAI has acknowledged the issue, they emphasize that the enforcement of safety measures falls primarily under police jurisdiction. In the meantime, police have increased personnel presence during peak hours to manage traffic and discourage onlookers from stopping on the highway.
