The Gujarat High Court has cancelled the acquisition of 'additional land' for the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, citing a 'concerted fraud' involving collusion between private landowners and officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The case involved land in Bholad village, Dholka taluka, Ahmedabad district, measuring 21,314 square meters. The court found that the original landowners manipulated land boundaries and obtained a non-agricultural conversion within 12 days to sell the land at inflated rates to private buyers. The court's 83-page judgment, made available on April 24, emphasized the need for high-level inquiries into the conduct of NHAI officials and highlighted that the compensation of ₹13.91 crore (approximately $1.7 million USD) for the fraudulent land acquisition was never disbursed due to ongoing disputes. The court ordered the immediate refund of the compensation amount to the NHAI and quashed all notifications related to the additional land acquisition, labeling the actions as illegal and fraudulent.
