Sujit Bose (63), a former minister and Trinamool Congress leader in West Bengal, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Kolkata on allegations of money laundering connected to a municipal recruitment scam. The ED took him into custody after a day-long interrogation at its office in Salt Lake. Officials described Bose's responses during questioning as evasive and inconsistent. The investigation centers around alleged recruitment irregularities at the Dakshin Dum Dum municipality, where Bose had served as vice chairman. He is accused of facilitating jobs for approximately 150 employees in exchange for monetary benefits. The ED has traced proceeds of crime linked to property acquisitions and cash deposits associated with Bose. This arrest is notable as it is the first significant action against a Trinamool Congress leader since the BJP assumed control of the West Bengal government. Bose, who lost his recent election bid against BJP's Sharadwat Mukherjee by over 37,000 votes, will be presented before a special PMLA court for further interrogation.
