Sujit Bose, a former minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in West Bengal, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday in connection with a money laundering case related to an alleged municipal recruitment scam. The 63-year-old was taken into custody after several hours of questioning at the ED's office in Salt Lake, Kolkata, where officials described his responses as 'evasive' and 'inconsistent'. Bose is accused of facilitating the hiring of approximately 150 individuals for various municipal positions at Dakshin Dum Dum municipality, where he previously served as vice chairman, in exchange for financial benefits. The ED's investigation has revealed potential 'proceeds of crime' linked to Bose, including flats allegedly received for job placements and suspicious cash deposits traced to his bank accounts. Bose, who lost the recent Assembly elections to a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, is expected to appear before a special PMLA court in Kolkata for further proceedings.
