Air India, owned by the Tata Group, will reduce more than 120 weekly international flights across approximately 30 routes between June and August due to escalating aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices and airspace restrictions linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The airline's temporary network rationalization aims to enhance operational stability and minimize last-minute disruptions for passengers. Notable route reductions include flights from Delhi to Chicago, Shanghai, and various cities in Europe and Southeast Asia. In North America, frequencies on routes to San Francisco and Toronto will be cut, while flights to Newark will increase. Despite these cuts, Air India will continue to operate over 1,200 international flights monthly. Affected passengers will receive options for re-accommodation, date changes, or full refunds. The Indian aviation sector faces worsening financial pressures, with ratings agency ICRA projecting net losses could escalate to ₹17,000-18,000 crore (approximately $2.1-2.2 billion USD) in FY26, exacerbated by rising fuel prices and the depreciation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar.
