The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is set for a significant change as Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) prepares to form the government following the 2026 Assembly elections. Although TVK emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, it fell short of the 118-seat majority. Governor Rajendra Arlekar initially required TVK to prove its majority before formally inviting it to form the government, leading to accusations from Congress and TVK leaders regarding delays attributed to the BJP-led central government. A crucial turning point occurred when Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), CPI, and CPI(M) extended their support to TVK, allowing it to surpass the majority threshold with support from approximately 118 to 120 MLAs. In a decisive third meeting with the Governor, Vijay submitted letters of support from allied MLAs, which led to Raj Bhavan's approval for the government formation. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow in Chennai, marking a major breakthrough for TVK in its first Assembly election.
