The arrival of various colonial powers in the 18th and 19th centuries facilitated missionary work, leading to the establishment of significant Christian populations in areas like Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Thoothukudi. Notably, the concept of 'Villages of Refuge' was developed to provide safe havens for converts facing persecution, fundamentally changing the cultural landscape of these regions.
