In a significant admission, China confirmed its on-site technical support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, which India launched to dismantle terrorist camps following a deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025. The operation targeted nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Lt Gen Rahul R Singh of the Indian Army stated that Pakistan utilized Chinese-made PL-15 missiles and Turkish drones, which were intercepted by Indian defense systems. Zhang Heng, an engineer from the Aviation Industry Corporation of China's Chengdu Aircraft Design and Research Institute, revealed in a recent interview that his team provided critical support to Pakistan, ensuring that their military equipment, particularly the J-10CE fighter jets, performed optimally. He described the challenging conditions faced by the support team during the conflict. The close military collaboration between China and Pakistan has raised concerns in India, with Singh noting that 81% of Pakistan's military hardware is of Chinese origin. The US Defense Department has also reported that China assisted Pakistan through intelligence support and electronic surveillance, enhancing Pakistan's operational capabilities without direct involvement from the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
