C Joseph Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is on the verge of forming a new government in Tamil Nadu after receiving crucial support from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and other parties. As of May 8, TVK has garnered the backing of 118 to 120 MLAs, including five from the Congress party and six from the Communist parties. Despite this, Governor RV Arlekar has not yet formally invited Vijay to form the government, leading to criticism from various political leaders. CPI General Secretary D Raja and Congress MP Jebi Mather have both emphasized the need for the Governor to adhere to democratic norms by inviting the party with the most seats to govern. The delay has raised suspicions of a potential agenda to favor the AIADMK-BJP alliance, despite their limited representation in the assembly. The VCK, which has not yet officially declared its support, is also expected to back Vijay, further solidifying his position as the likely next chief minister.
