The Maharashtra government is preparing to launch ‘MahaSarathi’, a unified citizen database, on May 1. This Aadhaar-linked platform aims to simplify access to various government welfare schemes by allowing citizens to register once and create a unique MahaID. By integrating state and central government schemes, the initiative is expected to improve the delivery of benefits while preventing misuse of funds. Citizens will upload essential documents, which will be verified and linked with their Aadhaar, ensuring that their data remains permanently stored. This will eliminate the need for repeated submissions of the same documents for different schemes. The database will contain critical information such as income, caste, education, and benefits received, enabling quick verification of eligibility by government departments. Officials believe this system will particularly benefit students applying for scholarships, as necessary details will be pre-verified. The government anticipates that filtering out fraudulent entries at the initial stage will save funds and enhance benefits for eligible citizens.
