The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun pre-monsoon maintenance on the Delhi-Gurugram stretch of NH-48 and the Sohna elevated expressway to mitigate waterlogging and hydroplaning risks. The maintenance work, expected to be completed by May, includes cleaning drainage systems, lubricating bearing structures, and implementing anti-glare measures for wet surfaces. Residents have expressed concerns regarding persistent leakages, particularly in the Badshahpur and Bondsi areas, which they claim pose safety risks for commuters, especially two-wheeler riders. A senior NHAI official confirmed that desilting is in progress on a 7km elevated stretch between Rajiv Chowk and Ghamroj, with blocked pipelines being cleared to prevent leaks. Additionally, waterproofing has been completed on a 6km stretch from Rajiv Chowk to Islampur village. NHAI has also awarded a maintenance contract in March for ongoing upkeep of NH-48, which includes plans for drainage cleaning and repairs along a 44km corridor connecting Gurugram to Delhi. Joint inspections with the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram revealed issues with sewer overflow due to illegal connections, which are being addressed.
