The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a series of mock drills and air raid blackouts in the Kashmir Valley, specifically in Kupwara, Anantnag, and Ganderbal districts, scheduled for April 23 and 24. These exercises, organized by the Civil Defence, are intended to enhance emergency preparedness and train citizens in response protocols during crises. Residents are urged to switch off all lights and draw curtains during the blackout period, which will last from 8:00 PM to 8:10 PM on the designated days. The Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara, Srikanat Balasaheb Suse, emphasized the importance of these drills in familiarizing the public with emergency responses. All emergency services will remain functional throughout the exercises. A similar notice has been issued for Anantnag and Ganderbal, with the drills taking place on April 23. This initiative follows last year's drills conducted prior to Operation Sindoor, which escalated tensions between India and Pakistan.
