A recent attempt to appoint Thol. Thirumavalavan, leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), as the first Chief Minister from the Scheduled Caste in Tamil Nadu has failed. This decision followed a last-minute proposal supported by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Initial difficulties arose when the AIADMK struggled to secure consent from its MLAs, leading to delays. By the time the party managed to gain support, Thirumavalavan had decided against the proposal, fearing backlash for potentially undermining the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which had won in 108 constituencies. The VCK opted to support the TVK to avoid Governor's rule, with Left parties also aligning with this decision. On May 9, Thirumavalavan ultimately submitted his support to TVK leader Adhav Arjuna, concluding the bid for his Chief Ministership, which had the potential to create history even if it lasted only a day.
