Thol. Thirumavalavan, the founder of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and MP from Chidambaram, is in a dilemma regarding joining the cabinet of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. While he has extended support to the ruling party, he is reluctant to formally join the government. Party sources indicate that VCK leaders are urging him to reconsider, especially in light of the party's recent electoral decline, which they attribute to its supportive role to the DMK on contentious caste issues. This has led to perceptions that the VCK has not adequately protected the interests of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/STs). The TVK is advocating for Thirumavalavan to join the cabinet to lend his experience to first-time legislators. However, he appears resistant to this offer. VCK general secretary D. Ravikumar has raised concerns that the breakup of the DMK-Congress alliance may weaken the broader political resistance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), questioning the necessity of maintaining a strong opposition stance now that the Congress is no longer an ally.
