Dharampal Singh, the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has mandated a swift acceleration of the ongoing fodder collection campaign for cow shelters, emphasizing the importance of cow welfare. The campaign, known as 'Bhusa Sangrahan Abhiyan', started on April 15 and aims to gather 1.37 crore quintals of fodder, of which 1.11 crore quintals have already been collected. Singh expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of several districts, including Hamirpur and Varanasi, and warned officials of strict action for non-compliance. He highlighted the necessity of ensuring that no cattle in shelters remain hungry or thirsty and stressed the need for adequate facilities, including clean drinking water and quality medicines. The minister also advocated for the establishment of biogas plants to manage cow dung effectively and support the rural economy. Currently, 12,37,694 cattle are sheltered in 7,386 cow shelters across the state, with additional efforts underway to verify the functioning of NGO-operated shelters.
