Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant to Suvendu Adhikari (a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party), was shot dead outside a biryani shop in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas, India. The attack occurred on an ordinary Wednesday evening, but it was anything but ordinary for Rath, who was seated in the front passenger seat of a Scorpio vehicle when assailants struck. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers approached on motorcycles and pressed a gun against the car window before firing at least three shots, hitting Rath in the head, chest, and leg. The vehicle's driver was also injured. Police believe the assailants had planned the ambush in advance, having been spotted near Dolatala Sahara Bridge hours earlier. They quickly fled the scene, possibly using multiple escape routes including Jessore Road. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage to track the escape of the attackers.
