In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police arrested Chandra Shekhar Prasad, an 82-year-old man, who had been evading law enforcement for 40 years after allegedly murdering his wife in 1986. The crime took place on October 19, 1986, at their residence in Shakarpur, East Delhi, where Prasad reportedly killed his wife by crushing her head with bricks due to suspicions of an extramarital affair. Following the murder, he and accomplices held a domestic help at gunpoint before fleeing the scene. An FIR was registered under sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, but the case remained unsolved for decades due to the absence of modern investigative tools and digital records. The crime branch reopened the case and utilized a combination of human intelligence and technical surveillance to track Prasad, who had been living under a false identity in various states, including Bihar, Punjab, and Haryana. He was finally apprehended on April 22 in a factory storeroom in Nangli Poona, outer north Delhi, where he was living. During interrogation, Prasad confessed to the crime, revealing that he had frequently quarreled with his wife before committing the act in a fit of rage. Further investigations are ongoing.
